EDC to double Data Centre footprint from 12, 000m² to 23, 000m²
May 06 - NDavid
9 May 2011 – Sydney – EDC plans to build a third data centre facility at Sydney and Melbourne Data Centres. With the completion of a third data centre on 18,000 sqm of land, the total EDC footprint will expand to over 23,000sqm of high quality infrastructure.
This expansion follows the appointment of EDC to the Federal Government’s Panel of Preferred Data Centre Providers and is a further demonstration of EDC’s leadership in technological innovation. EDC has a track record of supporting corporate clients and government agencies for more than ten years. With the new Data centre build and expansion of the existing data centers, Federal Government agencies now have a choice robust data centres within inter capital cities with Active – Active infrastructure on tap.
Jude Jacobs, CEO, EDC said, "The increase in demand for quality data centres has been driven by consolidation strategies and a lack of ‘power-on-tap’. With Australia’s recent natural disasters, there has been an increasing trend for clients to move their critical infrastructure to a safe location, away from geographic risks and city CBDs.”
EDC also develops cloud applications and services for clients that require an active data centre configuration to ensure high availability.
Jude Jacobs said, "All data for our cloud application are replicated between EDC’s Melbourne and Sydney data centres and users can be switched to the disaster recovery (DR) site within minutes.”
EDC’s data centres are geographically spread interstate, connected via EDC’s national inter-capital network and connected to the Internet via diverse high-speed fibre connections. EDC’s cloud applications are housed in a multi-tenant environment that is identical in all respects and located in the production and disaster recovery centres.
These mega cloud infrastructures also help managed services and internet service providers enter a rapidly expanding cloud market space, otherwise prohibitively expensive due to the substantial investment required upfront to provide end-to-end cloud solutions for their customers.
