EDC solves industry’s power and space crisis with data centre upgrade

Nov 29 - NDavid
29 November 2011 – Sydney – Enterprise Data Corporation (EDC) has commenced a significant power upgrade to its Sydney data centre facility, which will increase power capacity by an additional 5.7MW and data centre space by 1000sqm in an incremental staged approach.

The data centre facility upgrade, located at Sydney’s Norwest Business Park, is part of a multi-million dollar investment the company is making into its facilities and services, strengthening its position as a leader in cloud-enabled data centres and business resilience solutions.

Jude Jacobs, CEO EDC, said "With the advent of new technologies and reliance on cloud based computing, there is an urgent market demand for even more power and data centre space. Clients want the flexibility to quickly scale with confidence. There is ample power and space ready on-tap for current and future requirements. This upgrade demonstrates EDC’s ongoing commitment in investing in state-of-the-art facilities that not only meets this demand but also exceeds it by delivering the future of cloud computing, today.”

EDC’s data centres go beyond simply housing computing infrastructure, and operate as fully-equipped Business Resilience Centres for data, voice and staff to provide business continuity and cloud services. EDC has selected data centre locations that are risk free from floods, bush fires, earthquakes, with sufficient alternate freeway access during any congestion occurrence, or limited public transport access.

EDC is also a major player in cloud services with its data centres in Melbourne and Sydney serving clients as an active-active data centre configuration to ensure high availability.
The investment in cloud infrastructure lets EDC’s clients and partners access the rapidly expanding cloud market space, otherwise prohibitively expensive due to the substantial investment required upfront to provide end-to-end data centre and cloud solutions.

EDC’s data centres are safely located outside the 15km ‘CBD Radius of Risk’ zone to address compliance requirements and the challenges of environmental congestion, natural disasters and civil unrest or terrorist activities.
